When A Health Crisis Calls

Public health communicators have been in constant crisis comms mode for nineteen months. We’ve been supporting several clients in public health since the beginning of the pandemic to message and distribute information, all the while developing out-of-the-box strategies to reach audiences in an evolving news (and news consumption) environment.

Last week, our client needed a last-minute national media event to respond to evolving news surrounding mask use. A new CDC announcement on masks meant our client needed to get in front of their audiences and reporters immediately.

On short notice, we gathered hundreds of reporters for a successful news conference resulting in widespread coverage from the Associated Press, the New York Times, Politico and other high-profile news organizations.

In addition, to reach specific internal and external audiences beyond the media, we used the information to quickly produce social audio and video elements, including a special bonus podcast episode the same day.
