For the last twenty years, Summer has led and developed successful strategic communications campaigns for clients, candidates, and organizations. She leads Riester Public Affairs and manages the day-to-day client efforts. For clients, she develops and executes local and national advocacy campaigns, serves as lead communications counsel for federal and local elected officials, advises private sector CEOs, and acts as the spokesperson for delicate high-profile issues and crises.
Summer’s career has spanned local and national advocacy and politics, including work on two presidential campaigns. Summer also helped shape policy for a growing community as chief of staff to the Mayor of one of the fastest-growing Phoenix suburbs.
Summer began her career in local television, and she moved to local and statewide campaigns and then to the national stage in Washington, D.C. After several years building communications operations on Capitol Hill, Summer managed all media communications in the northeastern United States for a political committee, serving as spokesperson and working with communications in the state parties. She specializes in taking an issue or new candidate and creating a communications infrastructure and messages to raise its profile on the national scene.
Summer earned degrees from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and in Political Science from Arizona State. With Robert, Summer created and hosted the popular PR Nation podcast in Washington, D.C., for the unsung public relations professionals who work hard each day to manage communications work for clients, companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.
