Leading the RIESTER Public Relations team in Phoenix is Christina Borrego, a public relations veteran with a solid background in both the public and private sectors working with both general market and Hispanic audiences. Christina joined RIESTER from Porter Novelli where she worked on behalf of Hewlett Packard. Prior to that Christina was responsible for complex communication issues on behalf of Maricopa Medical Center, a teaching hospital and home to the state’s only regional Burn Center; Maricopa County Superior Court; the US Census Bureau and Cigna Healthcare of Arizona. Christina’s experience contributes to the consistent development and implementation of high quality, innovative public relations strategies that bring information to key audiences and the news media in a way that makes knowledge and understanding easily achieved.
Christina has been directly involved and contributed to the success of retail efforts including developing public relations strategies for Veterinary Pet Insurance, the nation’s first and largest insurance provider for pets; HERDEZ Brand salsa and its product extensions including HERDEZ Cooking Sauces; La Victoria Salsa Brand; Voskos Greek Yogurt, Apogee Doctor On Call, the first-ever over the phone consultation service with a board-certified physician and the Arizona Lottery and its presence in thousands of retailers across the state.
On the social marketing front, discouraging use of tobacco through the Tobacco Education and Prevention Campaign; raising awareness about the importance of higher education and saving for a college education on behalf of the Arizona Board of Regents and the Arizona Commission on Postsecondary Education; increasing recycling on behalf of the California Department of Conservation; encouraging use of alternative forms of transportation like busing, walking and carpooling on behalf of the Regional Public Transportation Authority and City of Tempe Transit; educating the public about identification at the polls on behalf of the Arizona Secretary of State’s Voter Education and Outreach Campaign.
She has worked with countless clients including the Arizona Lottery; the Secretary of State Voter Education and Outreach, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control; California Department of Conservation’s Division of Recycling; the Arizona Science Center; Regional Public Transportation Authority (Valley Metro) “Clean Air Campaign,” and Fennemore Craig. Prior to joining RIESTER Christina served as communications officer at Maricopa County Medical Center—a teaching hospital, serving the most vulnerable population in Maricopa County, and home to the state’s only regional Burn Center; Cigna Healthcare of Arizona.
Christina earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication with a Minor in Business from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Grand Canyon University. She also attended the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, where she mastered proficiency in written and spoken Spanish.
Christina has contributed to the success of both retail-oriented and social marketing campaigns, earning two PRSA Copper Anvil Awards for excellence in news media relations and for an original youth outreach campaign to “unsell” Meth in Arizona.
